DIY $10 Quick and Easy Fall Wreath

Picture
Fall is here! I love this time of the year for the same reason everyone else does - the Fall colors.

Around October, our front lawn has Little Quickfire Hydrangeas that start to become an ombré reddish purple, beige, and faded lime green (see right). This type of hydrangea dries really well, making it perfect for dried flower bouquets, house décor, and wreaths!

I quickly whipped up a Fall wreath using everything foraged from my front lawn. My goal was to make it quick, easy, and affordable (just paying for the cost of the wreath!)

Materials
  • 24" grapevine wreath (I got mine from Michael's here which was $9.99)
  • Little Quickfire Hydrangeas, grasses, pods, lavender, any foraged flowers that dry well (see list below)
  • Scissors
Best Flowers to Dry
  • Eucalyptus
  • Strawflowers
  • Hydrangeas
  • Lavender
  • Gomphrena
  • Statice
  • Yarrow
  • Rose
If you decide to dry these yourself, cut the stem, remove the leaves, and hang upside down in a bundle in a dark, well ventilated area.
Instructions
  1. Gather all your dried flowers. See above on how to dry the flowers properly.
  2. Lay your flowers loosely around your wreath to determine where you want to position them. Some people like to fill their entire wreath or just cover half. I decided to cover 2/3s of my wreath with some smaller flowers on the bare side.
  3. Begin inserting the stem into the grapevine wreath. You shouldn't need any wire or glue if you are using a grapevine wreath. Trim the excess stem when it has been securely inserted.
  4. Give it a good shake to make sure none of the pieces fall off. Hang on your front door to show off your finished product!
