Stunning Flowers to use for Spring Weddings

Picture
Spring in Boston (and Ontario when I used to live there) is probably my favorite time of year. It's actually the transition into Spring that excites me the most. Coming out of the long, cold months of hibernation and barren trees really makes you appreciate the first sign of tiny buds. Talk about slowing down and appreciating the moment, right?!

It's also an exciting time for weddings because gorgeous blooms are now available and in season. Why is seasonal valuable?

Seasonal Flowers = Better value for your money and they last longer!

Out of season flowers have to be shipped from far away so they lose freshness and are usually more expensive. So what's in season at this time of the year?

I've created a list of top seasonal flowers to use for Spring weddings from incredibly talented local florists in Boston, MA!

Of course, there are so many more flowers to choose from but this list narrows down the best of the best :)

Top Flowers in Season for Spring Weddings

Roses

It's a given and a classic, which one? What color? I  really love the Kensington Garden Rose (and it is from Canada!). It has a peach salmon tone with large fluffy ruffles that can brighten up any Spring bouquet. You can find the Kensington rose tucked in the bottom left corner (see picture) of this vibrant gorgeous bouquet by Two Stems of Joy, captured by Fergie Medar Photography.  Two Stems of Joy knocked this out of the ball park by balancing a very colorful assortment with finesse and texture.

Carnations

Say what you will, but there are some really pretty carnations out there. They tend to be at the bottom of the popularity list, but can we convince you otherwise with Two Stems of Joy's magical bouquet? Here, you'll find carnations in a rustic purple berry color (left side of bouquet in picture)

Hellebores

These beauties can take any bouquet from basic to luxury in no time. Hellebores usually come in white, rose, purple and green and the most precious flower! In the photo on the left, they are the purple flower with the green center. Keep in mind these are pricy so you definitely want to get them in Spring when in season.

I love the combination of florals in this unique, stunning bouquet from Sarah's Floral Design. She used purple hellebores, pink carnations (see how they can make a comeback!),
jasmine vine, veronica, ranunculus,  blackberries, and fritillaria (the blackberries were my favorite final touch). If this isn't a beautiful assortment of purple red hues, I don't know what is.
Tulips

I remember growing up only seeing regular tulips, but there are some show stopping tulips that are beautiful for weddings! Parrot, double, peony, and fringed tulips are some to name a few.

I used pink double tulips with the yellow center to compliment the gorgeous yellow ranunculus (see photo on right). Tulips are in abundance in the Spring and I would encourage you to use this to replace something like spray roses. This was probably my favorite arrangement so far that I made for Easter.

Ranunculus

There's nothing quite like a ranunculus if you are looking for whimsical, romantic and elegant. They are a staple focal flower due to its paper thin petals that circle around, drawing your eye to it. I used a yellow Cloony ranunculus for the bright Spring arrangement.

Sweet Peas and Hyacinth

Ready to put everything together? Check out Orly Khon Floral's show stopping Spring arrangement, photographed by Anastasia D'Andrea. I wanted to highlight the white sweet peas (left on top photo) which look like fluffy clouds on a stem along with the blush pink hyacinth (center in top photo). You've likely seen hyacinth in people's gardens which have several star shaped petals that add texture and depth.
